Kids Author Carnival

One of the benefits of living in New York City is the plethora of fabulous and fantastic children’s literature events.  This one looks to be a can’t-miss for me and my daughter! (I’m not sure who’s more excited by it.)

I’d seen this on Facebook from Greenwillow Books, but I just received a wonderful email from Claire Legrand (author of Year of Shadows and a lovely lady). From Claire:

Inspired by the Teen Author Carnival, the Kids Author Carnival is a huge middle grade extravaganza celebrating middle grade books, authors, and readers. Activities, games, Q&A sessions, and giveaways will be followed by a book sale and signing. We will have 37 fantastic authors in attendance–see above for a complete list!

The goal of the KAC is to provide an opportunity for young readers to interact with authors up close and personal in a fun, party-like atmosphere. This is a unique event, catered heavily toward actual middle grade-aged readers. Instead of an event featuring conventional, long-form Q&A panels, the KAC will usher attendees through shorter, interactive stations in which authors will cut loose and play games, answer questions, and lead kids through miniature writing exercises.

All ages are welcome and encouraged to attend. But please note that the kids will take center stage at this particular event!

WHEN: Saturday, May 31 from 6pm to 8:30pm. Doors open at 5:30pm.
WHERE: Jefferson Market Library | 425 Avenue of the Americas (at 10th Street), New York, NY 10011
COST: Free!
WHO: 37 fantastic middle grade authors, including Tim Federle, Kate Milford, Kelly Barnhill, Caroline Carlson, Bruce Coville, Soman Chainani, Christopher Healy, Aaron Starmer, Lauren Tarshis, and Laurel Snyder.
AGES: 7 and up

  1. This sounds like a great event, Leslie! I’m SURE you and your daughter will have a blast. Things like this make me wish I lived in the city, or at least on that side of the Hudson! lol Thanks for posting it (and thanks, Claire! Now following your blog. You’ve got some GREAT covers for your books!) 🙂

    1. We’d love to see you and yours there! I’m going to check out that Twitter button now. Maybe you and Lauri will drag me onto Twitter at NJ SCBWI…
